Maybe you’re in the mood for some chicken, our famous goulash or some homemade poppy seed noodles. Or how about a chilled summer spritzer or some sparkling apple juice? At Schweizerhaus, we have something no matter your fancy to make sure no one goes home parched or famished.
At our alley counter, you’ll not only find chips and potato pancakes to take away, but our entire menu is available for takeaway — without any need to call ahead. Of course, they’re only available while the kitchen’s open: daily from 11 AM to 10:30 PM.
Our pork knuckle, the famous Schweizerhaus Stelze is fit to feed about two to three. Your server will carve it for you right at your table. It looks incredible — and tastes even better.
It’s no rarity for our servers to log several kilometers on a single shift. Usually doing so with a fully loaded tray. Despite it all, they’re still happy to serve you up their two cents. Simply marvellous. We say: worth a good tip!
In 1926, Karl Kolarik Sr. discovered something unique in Czechoslovakia and immediately took it home by the keg. It didn’t take long for the original “Budweiser Budvar” to be on everyone’s lips — a fact that remains true to this day.
This pure beer comes from centuries of brewing tradition and is brewed naturally without using any preservatives. Saaz aroma hop cones are fermented with the top-quality malting barley and particularly soft spring water, which is pumped to the surface from a depth of 300m. Then… we wait. 90 days for storing — about four times longer than most industrial beers. Then it makes the trek to the chilled and spacious confines of the Schweizerhaus beer cellar, where it settles down and relaxes alongside up to 600 other barrels. Rest is important, as it’s only afterwards that it can truly release its quality when poured.
Before you can bury your nose or ‘stache in its foamy head, your beer has to be poured. At Schweizerhaus, we always tap our beer the traditional way, namely in three steps. We need anywhere from 3 to 6 minutes for a proper “pre-pour, re-pour and finishing.” All good things come to those who wait, as it were. It’s precisely this laborious process, which allows for some of the carbonation to dissipate and settle as that foamy goodness, that makes beer at Schweizerhaus so quaffable. It’s slow food in a glass!
But not just any glasses, mind you. For over 90 years, we’ve been serving beer in our Schweizerhaus Bunkerl glasses. Developed and produced ourselves, Bunkerl glasses give our beer an added degree of unmatched brilliance. By the way, since 2020 we’ve been serving non-alcoholic draught Budweiser at Schweizerhaus — something you won’t find anywhere else in Vienna.
